Watch the big monitor, not the list. A hand going to a coat is a thief; a man turning away to read the back of a box is not, and the analytics cannot tell them apart — it only says where to point the camera.
Roll up on an innocent shopper and you get a harassment complaint; three and you're back on traffic duty. Shouting “put that back” over the PA is the safe alternative — he might comply, he might look at you blankly, and everyone in the aisle hears it either way.
